Theft from taxi in Epping

Detectives from Mill Park Criminal Investigation Unit are appealing for public assistance to help solve a theft committed on a Taxi Driver on Wednesday night.
The picked up his fare at the intersection of Bourke and Spring St, Melbourne and was asked to go to Bundoora.
Halfway through the journey the passenger changed his mind and asked to be taken to Epping.
The taxi stopped in Howard St, about 50 metres north of Cooper St to let the passenger out.
As the man got out of the taxi he grabbed a metal coin dispenser and the driver’s mobile phone.
The driver chased the man along Howard Street and caught up with him soon after.
The offender turned and struck the taxi driver with the coin dispenser causing a 3cm cut to the right side of the driver’s upper lip and a 2cm cut to the right side of his chin.
The offender is described as male, Caucasian, 25 years old with a goatee and wearing a ‘Sonic Youth’ top.
Police are appealing for anyone who may be able to identify the man or who has any information about the theft is urged to contact
