I've gone over this one before, but hey! Let's do it again, just for shits and giggles.
I post about SY when I feel there's a debatable issue; generally, when I feel it's warranted.
Do I feel the need to repetitively state my undying love for all that is Sonic Youth, day in, day out? To mindlessly list my favorite song off each LP; do it the following week again in a poll; do it the week after in respects to each individual band member?

I like SY. The other members of this forum like SY. There are only so many dimensions of discussion on that topic.
I like interacting with fellow fans of SY because I enjoy their perspectives on OTHER music and issues. On the whole, I find them to be of above average intelligence and open-mindedness.
In regards to the appreciation of SY's music, thanks kids, but I don't need any help on that one.
And so, if my failure to beat a dead conversational horse, or to mindlessly jerk off other SY fans simply on the basis of a common appreciation, makes me a redundant poster, then I personally advocate my own uselessness.
