I've left out 'avant shit' 'free improv' and 'classical' and re-ordered this list in order to point out that you've just provided a list of 20th-century Western popular music. I wouldn't say that's terrifically broad myself. It's expansive but not terrifically broad. Do you see?

Furthermore, isn't surf one of rock's 'myriad colours'?
