every decadde has bad ass music. every decade has bad ass art and movies and everything, all along with it's share of CRAP everything of course.
There are a few differences in the 80's as to now in terms of music video. bands wree not afraid to do goofy shit in videos, nor to look like the regular people they were. since the 80's ended it is nearly impossible to find a band full of ugly ugly motherfuckers on video, like toto, or men at work, or any of a thousand bands with ugly band members.
of course there are exceptions but for the most part this is true
the 4 guys in REM were fucked up looking. they;d never get video airplay these days
