The Penultimate Galactic Bordello is the four disc one and it's not the place to start, even if it has some really nice stuff here and there.
Their latest incarnation with Pikachu from Aframpo is superb--she really adds something to their stage presence, namely hotpants and great chops both vocally and on drums.
The trio gig Pauliebee refers to was cool but it was just Kawabata and the Ruins drummer Tatsuya, who was blistering. Their gigs are always captivating--ever the same but always different. It was meant to include the bassist but he didn't tour--this is what Paulie refers to when he mentions it above.
For what it's worth I usually recommend In C, La Novia and Wild Gals to those who don't know much, but I think their strongest work (at least I think this today) is Iao Chant and Univers, both of which should be freely available. Lately Kawabata has discovered that it's alright to have a low end in the mix and their work has become even heavier. Finally, I welcome their decision to part with Cotton--she always annoyed the shite out of me despite her great work on Univers.
Oh, finally finally, there's a great recording of their last show from the US Spring tour, in the Bottom of the Hill in SF, on archive.org. Nice!
