Pretty sure I was the first to ever mention 'em (Bardo Pond) way back in 2002 after joining.
They haven't progressed in any remarkable way.

Matador sure is touchy about what some person remarks on this board. Not many are worthy of such attention so the quasi-brouhaha is sort of comical.

Case in point: In the "What label is SY signing to" (or whatever it was called) thread, I posted that a move to Domino doesn't make sense, that even Warp Records would be better, and noted further that the two labels that make the most sense are Matador or Nonesuch. My message was followed by a reply from This Is Not Here declaring that my musings were moot because Sonic Youth had already signed with Domino alluding in effect that I was out of the loop. Believing this to be the case and not wanting to suffer a back-and-forth, I simply promptly deleted my post. Well, now we see that Sonic Youth has wisely gone over to Matador. And thank goodness.
