I see what you're saying, and while I'm sure it might be true in a lot of cases, that argument does remind me a
bit of the old 'politics of envy' mantra that I heard in the 80s: where anyone who decided to poke fun at vulgar displays of consumption was dismissed as doing so out of petty jealousy. (Which I'm sure you didn't mean.) Anyway, call me old fashioned but while a lack of self confidence might inspire
some people to laugh at the sight of a 45 year old man riding a kid's sized BMX bike down Brike Lane, for others it's just really
really funny.
