They were walking flamingos on leashes down Westbury Ave. There were two grown men, a very attractive lady and about seven or eight little children. A hundred lines of barely visible silk, fine almost as if straight from the wise spider's loom, looped around the upper leg of no less than seventy five flamingos. Among the troupe of birds was one male peacock, two wild turkeys, and circling overhead a great horned owl.
Sure, people marveled, but from a distance. Even the wild children of forest dwelling parents not used to the city stimulation drew up short as the march went by.
Later a journalist had written explaining the probable meaning of the spectacle. Given the rarity of the spectacle and the definite lack of available information that might explain or frame the event within reason, the poor journalist had to take a hand dealt with truly improbable and probably preposterous odds and shave as much off her end as she could, because she was a professional.
She made her best effort and turned in a piece of work that would cover the story fair and square. She evaded all pitfalls of speculation and brought it all back to the rest of us. She wouldn't win any awards, but it was an important moment.
summer is that parade of birds, adults, and children if they were invertebrates, sliming their way down Westbury Ave. Just a whole maggot mess of decay and sickness.
