I dunno. I guess once upon a time, I would grow frustrating when truly brilliant, original music like Make a Rising is overlooked in favour of some band doing the same ol' boring shit, but nowadays I don't give a fuck. First of all, a lot of people don't like anything "new", they like tributes of homages of ripoffs of commercialized versions of things that were considered "unique" 30 years ago. Taking the underground's best moments and turning it into a slick, commercial greatest hits version. Look at "punk", for example. Nothing has really changed in 30+ years (same 3 power chords, same fucking hooks, same structures, etc.) but nowadays it's everywhere, even in Target ads.
Still, this doesn't bother me, as I'm older and don't care that a 14 year old hipster might like the same band as me. Vivian Girls's music moves me, in spite of its percieved simplicity and unoriginality.. that, in itself, is quite special and worthy of attention (to me).
