Sounds like you've got a bad big muff or something's wrong with your amp or your cables.
I have a 70s bassman and a 60s Kent, and my Big Muff makes sounds amazing through them (although the Kent is so dark I have to crank the tone.)

No no, my problem is with the Holy Grail pedal. I don't use a Big Muff.
I thought that too but it does it on different amps, and with different cables. I returned the first one I bought and got another one, after a few months, same problem.
I looked and other ppl have had the same problem in online forums, and now I went to guitar center and it says the model is discontinued (it was the first holy grail).
