Unfortunately, all this quasi-scientific skepticism has us either attempting to maintain at all costs some sense of a meaningful relationship in understanding nature, reality, whatever (which seems to be the point of agreement between both sides in this debate, regardless of the 'ism' defended) or, I believe, the stronger conclusion that this relation is only a self-serving defense that has been undermined time and again throughout history.
Agnosticists (and weak atheists) are the last people to assert absolutely that metaphysical reality is unknowable.
