I think it's only really poisonous if the person slagging off facepain spends an awful lot of time talking to people (however obliquely) on an internet messageboard. "Fuck talking to people I actually know online, I can't be a cunt to them and still talk to them".
I find facebook moderately useful. Keeping in touch, looking at girls - it's all gravy.
