I'm straight, but it really bothers me to sit through broke-back jokes and even more mean-spirited verbal attacks on homosexuals. I have one friend in particular who's prone to making such remarks while we're sitting in restaurants and bars--this is a big university town with a goodly proportion of homosexuals in its population, and more than a few of them are a lot tougher looking and more physically fit than either my friend or me. So not only am I embarassed by the ignorance of my friend's remarks, but I'm also afraid for my personal safety.

Anyway, suffice it to say gay-bashing really has no place in any context these days.
