I've finally gotten my hands on SYR6 to complete my SYR collection. It'd probably help to see the visuals from the performance but it's definitely not their worst. I'm curious as to what you all think. This will be a pubic, multiple choice poll, but please don't vote unless you've heard at least four of them.
My personal favorite is still SYR1 and my least is SYR3. Please discuss your decisions. (yeah yeah...sorry bout the SYR4 typo)

The movie owns. I don't care if it threatens my masculinity.
Now...on with the poll.

I've said before that I consider SYR6 to be among the very best improvised music I've heard, although I'm never sure if that should be 'semi-improvised' since the band had a visual narrative to guide them. It certainly feels somewhat structured on occaision, perhaps that is why. The thing as a whole has a kind of simple depth to it ('still currents run deep' and all that) that has an almost spiritual, meditative aspect to it. Perhaps 'devotional' is a better word. Either way, I consider this quality to be the thing that makes it an exceptional part of the SY canon. It is the ability to do something like this, as a kind of adjunct to their usual work, that makes me really love this band.
I play it on a regular basis; I think it is a fascinating recording and I would love to hear the band talk at length about it or to see detailed notes in the discography section. (for me, in modern musical terms SYR6 finds a natural accompaniment in David Sylvian's 'Approaching Silence. The latter is composed, and uses electronica and dialogue, but nevertheless the texture of the two pieces is engagingly similar)

No, I have not. I am about to do a search for them though. Thanks for the tip.
edit: I haven't found any samples online yet, but they sound very interesting. The link I found to their official page does not work.

God Lord. I've just seen a Reynols discography here. Which of their several thousand releases should I attempt to find? I'm not sure I have space to house them all.

I'll admit, I hadn't heard of Reynols either, and so I also made a search which you (Hip Priest) may be interested in.

Not sure what I was voting on - what I own, or what I like most. I own all except 6 so far, but I voted for the ones I like best: 1, 3, and 4. They're all great though, of course.

Can't tell you why 3 is my favorite. It just is. 1 kicks ass, too, and 5 is very interesting. Haven't heard 6 yet.

I wonder why musicfallinglikesnow deleted all her posts from this thread. It makes it look as though I was talking to myself.
