Weird coincidences? Here's one
So me and a couple of friends are doing the usual rounds of prank calls at a party. The usual stuff "This is Leyland police and we've had complaints about the noise in your house" etc. etc. Tye next one I speak and god knows why I said but it but I basically said "As rainbow shines I shall hang Sophie Lee from the highest tree by her blond hair". I put the phone down and think nothing more of it. The next day I go home and sleep only to wake up in the morning with a fair few texts from the host of the party. Mainly saying "who's Sophie Lee?" So I ring him up for him to ask who she is cos that day they had a phone call from the people I pranked threatening to call the police for the abusive message. Turns out their Granddaughter was called Sophie Lee. Bugger. So I had to ring up them and apologise. The woman on the phone was going absolutely mad saying I should grow up (she was right) and act my age. After grovelling to her she said she wouldn't phone the police but I had to phone her daughters house (the one who had the Sophie Lee). I rang up. They didn't quite believe my story but hey they didn't ring the police so all's well that ends well/ And the moral of the story is press 141 before making a prank call.

I don't know if this counts as a coincidence, but I find that everytime I get interested in a new band, something special happens with them. For example, the day I bought Psychocandy I found out JAMC were rereleasing their albums. When I was getting interested in MBV, I found out they were releasing a box set.

There have been times when I've written a poem or a paragraph or something, and one line or sentence will be really vague and I can't think of a way to add any "life" to it, and at some later point in time the thing that I've written about will happen to me, or I'll witness it happening to someone else. Then when I describe what I see it fits much better into the structure of what I was writing. Does that make sense?

Stopitstopit Stopitstopit Stopitstopit Stopitstopit Stopitstopit Stopitstopit Stopitstopit There are far too many old indie bands coming back to mind lately. It's all a bit too much. I want my avant-wanker personae back. Luigi Nono anyone?

This is probably the strangest coincidence I've ever had:
One time my friend and I were waiting for a couple of people to show up at my mom's house to jam, as they had answered an ad we had placed looking for musicians. These two dudes got there, and we started talking music. The more we talked, the more we felt that there was a mismatch, as they weren't into the same stuff we had mentioned. One of the guys takes out the address he had written down and realizes that it's 5255 Hampshire NOT 5255 Florida (my mom's house). They went to the wrong house two blocks away where two other musicians just happened to be waiting to jam at the same time! My mom's house is in the suburbs too, so not quite a breeding ground for bands. |
