LOST AND WAITING TO BE FOUND: LEE RANALDO/MARINA ROSENFELD/NELS CLINE 'Live' at Tonic NYC (purportedly an Atavistic "Out Trios" series CD) While the rough of this recording sits somewhere in Sonic Youth's lair, another potential recording from Tonic with Lee (gtr, bells), Alan Licht (gtr), Carlos Giffoni (synth), and yours truly ALSO could emerge. The suspense is killing me. What will happen?? I apologize for the morass of releases/info. It takes me a while to remember this stuff, then to write about it, so it's all in a heap. Enjoy. |

You got my hopes up there. That Lee/Marina/Nels recording has been on the "to be released" list for a good couple of years. I thought there was finally a release date.

by the way, the nels cline singers just finished a new record which is to be released this summer. check out his stuff, nels is the man. always a nice blend of jazz, avantgarde noise and sy-style indierock riffage. www.nelscline.com

I can't stand Rosenfeld's stuff, I saw this gig and her schtick is to find the noisey part of a record between songs and then keep dropping the needle on it and processing it. The needle drops in the Tonic PA with a wretched CRACK...she basically adds a lot of ugly noise - Lee was playing with his cord plug a lot on this gig as I recall, fans of harsh ugly noise will look forward to this release. Just not my thing.
Nels plays all this week at the Jazz Standard in NYC, 2-3 sets a night, I'll catch a couple but at $20 a set I have to be picky, plus I want to see Jack Rose and Other Dimensions in Music this week...Nels & Elliott Sharp on Sunday should be hot... |
