My computer has gone bonkers again. I have switched broadband provider, installed the disc properly etc, yet it keeps on telling me that there is a signal and I'm connected, but it won't load any internet pages, even though it tells me that the website has been found. I'm in your hands.

Might it be a problem with the router? This shit used to happen to me all the time at my last apartment (and last laptop).

Yes, i've also re-installed the software, checked the internet connection etc. It's never done that before. It says that the ethernet adapter connection has a cable unplugged. What does that mean?

are you switching from being hard-wired in to connecting by wifi? it sounds like it. either way, try this: START BAR > control panel > network and internet connections > network connections > double click the connection that has a signal. if THAT doesn't fix it. recycle modem / router. unplug router, unplug modem, wait a few seconds for it to all power down, plug router in, plug modem in. |

The above is sagely. I'd also try a different browser, or refresh your cache. If it doesn't work in IE (assuming you're on FF), it's a problem with your connection.
Also, stop downloading porn.

how do you connect to the wan? is it with a router like people are suggesting? or are you using a usb modem?
if you are using a router and windows xp go to control panel, right click on the ethernet or wireless connection you want to set, click properties, select tcp/ip, click on properties check obtain ip address automatically check obtain dns serevr automatically click ok click close open a browser, type in 192.168.0.1 to access your router make sure you've set your ppoe username and password correctly go back to the control panel select internet options, select the tab connections click on setup select connect to the internet, select configure my connection manually, select connect using a broadband connection that is always on, |

It's a usb modem. It seems ok now, keep in mind my pc is an old hiv patient. Maybe it's starting to develop the aids and then it will die. Thanks for your advice.
