2 bands not always paired together--here I have paired all of TG's work--which I know much more of and love--with NWW"s first release, "Chance Meeting on a Dissection Table...." as I know their music is extremely varied but little else about them. The emphasis on utter dissonance and sonic aggression (without resorting to the cliches of heavy metal or hardcore) faschinate me to no end, as do, of course, the dissonance in Sonic Youth's material, particularly "Confusion," "Bad Moon Rising," Evol" and "Sister." But Sonic Youth don't allow themselves, in anything but live shows, to give into chaos, and then it's only for a couple of minutes, though earlier on, as shown on the "Sonic Death" tape, they would indulge in it for longer.
Anyway, my point in writing this is, if you know and love either of these bands/releases, which are pretty dated now I suppose, what bands would you recommend that sound similar? I'm famiiliar with Coil, Psychic TV, Chrome, Einster-whatever their actual name is, Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music (which I still haven't decided whether it is genius, an experiment to judge for oneself, or a joke on the record company--I think I'm going with experiment to judge for oneself now), and Henry Cow, who can be outrageous. I'm actually primarily looking for newer bands following in Sonic Youh's--or Throbbing Gristle's--footsteps, and so far perhaps the wildest band I have been turned on to is Black Dice. While I enjoy them, so far I haven't found anything ultra radical in them--perhaps I need a recommendation? Help me out here, folks--would love some new noise! |

Thanks for the responses! Will check all of these out! Genteel Death turned me onto Harry Pussy, so I am in bliss right now--this band pretty much represents exactly what I'm looking for! Crazy, whacked out, in your face screaming noise with atonal guitar and free form drumming everywhere. Love it!
