Two dissimilar acts, connected only by the fact that they're both playing support to Dalek when I go to see him play next week.
Should I be getting excited about either of them? |

Guapo did a split with cerberus shoal, who are one of the greatest bands ever, and that's the only stuff I've heard by them and it's cool.
EL Guapo were better though |

el guapo are pretty shitty; indie techno or some crap.
guapo is kinda like king crimson, only more organic and improvisational, aren't they? i haven't listened to them in a few years. but that's a weird bill, dälek, guapo and destructo swarmbots (i haven't heard them but they sound heavy and noodly). |

haha I saw el guapo live and they were actually really great. It was a few dudes with 700 drum machines. the album "Fake french" on dischord is actually really cool, but it's the only one i've heard. it sounds like if fugazi owned 700 drum machines.

oh yeah, it's funny.
they played with racebannon, who were just a straight-up dj-based noise kraut rock band (before they turned into boring math sci fi screamo shit and then turned into boring metalcore beasts).. they also played with mecca normal, who lee wrote skip tracer about and were horrible.. and they played with q and not u, who had just lost one of their members a few days before... so, their set was reeeeeeeeeal crappy. Sad. It was in this attic in an abandoned art museum down some weird dark alley and it was rebuilt on the inside with two huge, um, skate ramps, and people were skateboarding during the set and the entire room had mirrors all around. And the floorboards were wooden and creaky and nails were sticking out and all the other rooms in this attic had paint on them and there were holes in the wall and shit. I think that venue lasted like a month.. animal collective and cock esp also played there... Cool show. |
