As usual, I start these threads under the influence of substances and geeky inspiration. Anyhow, discuss while I think of giving an appropriate answer.

Chris Watson has done some amazing stuff with field recordings of animals and insects.

For electronically-manipulated vocal gibberish, you can't go wrong with Henri Chopin. Also worth hearing is Demetrio Stratos, who unique vocalisms can be heard on an ancient LP on the Cramps label - you can hear the whole LP on the Ubuweb site.

Vagina Dentata Organ's 'Music for Hashishins' is pretty scary - looped recordings of wolves snarling and barking.

I've picked up a few animal sounds BBC archive things from charity shops. Interesting, but not the most repeated of listening. I'm quite into Sainko Namchylak at the moment. Let Peremsky Dream and Nomad both have some of the most astounding vocalese I've heard. Obviously, you can't mention vocalese without thinking about Saint Diamanda. It could well be that Mr Marras is talking about whistlers, in which case I'll state once more that I'm quite a fan of Mr R. Ronalde.
