So, lately I've been listening to lots of acoustic guitar musicians, singer songwriter stuff.
I really enjoy: Steve Gunn, Jack Rose, Fahey, Leo Kottke, Basho, Tetuzi Akiyama, Derek Bailey also singer songwriter/folk suff: Townes Van Zandt, Bernt Jansch, Simon Finn.... Some banjo recommendations would be great too Sandy Bull, etc I'm sure there already is a thread for this kind of stuff but I couldn't find it. |

Mostly acoustic stuff here, but I threw in some folk I like too:
- Robbie Basho - Max Ochs - Windam Hill - Christina Carter - Bukka White - Harry Taussig - Dick Rossimi - Ben Reynolds - Voice of the Seven Woods - Peter Lang - Loren Mazzacane Connors - Jack Rose - John Fahey, the king - Leo Kottke - Wooden Spoon - Pat O'Connell - Andrew Stranglen - Terry Robb - Dale Miller - Tetsui Akiyama - Michael Gulezian - Sandy Bull - James Blackshaw - Gillian Welch - Sean Smith - Glenn Jones - Harris Newman - Six Organs of Admittance - Jim O'Rourke - Triple Burner - Steffen Basho-Junghans - George Stavis - Bob Hadley - Wayne Lopes - Davey Graham - Bob Brozman - Voice of the Seven Woods - Bert Jansch - Anne Briggs - Wooden Wand - Vashti Bunyan - Fire on Fire (avant-bluegrass -- highly reccomended) - Fairport Convention - Sir Richard Bishop - Alvarius B (Blood Operatives is probably my favorite "folk" album ever made) - Espers Favorite folk artist ever is probably Japanese acid-folk genius Kazuki Tomokawa. Plenty of blogs, like Grown So Ugly, are dedicated pretty much exclusively to stuff like this, check em out. Lots of great stuff out there. Best way to find threads for acoustic guitar music -- on any forum, really -- is to search for the word "Fahey". I highly reccomend going to his last.fm and checking out the similiar artists, that's how I found everything I just mentioned, pretty much. |

Cam Deas, yes. He's really fascinating.
Thanks alot ASP, that's a great lists. Will check out the ones I didn't know. With Fahey, it's quite interesting how influential he was for the acoustic steel string guitar in popular music. I mean, he's all over the place. My favourite "folk" album is probably Simon Finn - Pass the Distance, but i am not sure, there are so many great records it's hard to choose. Some guitar favourites from Africa: Erasmus N. Ndara http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uPa16SHDK4 Mwenda Jean Bosco http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5Ag7hsinx8 Also, I found myself totally in love with fado, only know Carlos Paredes and have a few other compilations.... go ahead, shoot ! |

I excessively listened to Glenn Jones the last few days. Great stuff.
He did a some duets with Jack Rose, which are nice too. |
