DANIEL JOHNSTON "YIP/JUMP MUSIC" 1983, Self-released/Stress Records/Homestead Records/Eternal Yip Eye Music Well over an hour of beautiful minimal pop music by millionaire songwriter Daniel Johnston. Instead of focusing on the lo-fi sound of the music (which, in my mind, does add to the sound of the album but...) or Daniel's "crazzzzinessssssss", I'd just like to mention that these are all absolutely brilliant songs. Some compare Daniel to the Beatles; I dunno about THAT, but I will say that he has a genius mind for creating harmonically sound pop music. I enjoy most of Daniel's albums (mainly the early ones; after the major label releases and stuff, the music became too textured and I think the appeal of the minimalism of his music was gone)....... but this is the one where I think every track is really special. I have to give special mention to "Almost Got Hit By A Truck". |

Wait til you get to 50, then do it. That'll be nice and...even.
I have mixed feelings about Johnston. I like several of his songs a lot, but most of them I can't really get used to. They're decently written, but nothing amazing, in my opinion. He does have his strokes of genius, though, there's no doubt about it. |

I'd pick this record out of his catalogue as well if I had to choose one. I LOVE "Speeding Motorcycle" and "Almost Got Hit By A Truck".

I think this is the easiest one to listen to from beginning to end, even if it's the longest. It's so diverse.
Love the accapella songs. Even the 6 minute King Kong. |

accapella songs are intense. Some old blues ones are some of my favorite shit.
I think 1990 is my favorite Daniel Johnston album. Hi, How Are You? is my second favorite. Daniel Johnston writes songs on the same level as The Beatles and Bob Dylan to me. The albums great though.. |

1990 is just too emotionally heavy at times to want to listen to it constantly. Haha.
I like this one cuz it's still fun. |
