Northampton Wools Northampton Wools CS Cat: OM24 $7.00 Ecstatic Peace is the proud distributor of this new Northampton Wools release on Open Mouth tapes. Northampton Wools is the guitar/amp duo of Bill Nace (who runs Open Mouth) and Thurston Moore (of Sonic Youth as well as honcho of Ecstatic Peace). After a couple of years of full-on free noise guitar decimation in basements and flower gardens across the New England landscape and weirdo clubs in Brooklyn and Manhattan and even in trio with drum dream date Chris Corsano at 2008s massive Colour Out Of Space festival in Brighton, UK we finally have a document that shows these boys in skull collapsing files, sticks, picks and flesh on stressed strings and cracked pickups mania. 40 minutes plus on one side of a black cassette with artwork by Nace. Half of these tapes were on Nace’s merch table when he toured cross the USA with Daniel Higgs this past April. Those are sold out but we got the rest with less than 100 available. Primo kill. thanks for the heads up blunderbuss. |

It's arrived, and it's fucking amazing. When I ordered it, I had my reservations, like I often do with T's side stuff, but... wow! This isn't random noise shit, this is beauty. Those guys were totally on the ball that day.
EDIT - It's one of those pesky one-sided tapes, by the way, but the sounds on it are so good it would be a crime to have a break halfway through. |

i'm curious, is the sound real low on your tape as well and only coming from the left channel? |

i don't understand the appeal for the cassette nowadays.
It's a very droney / noise media these days. How come? School me. |

well to me, it makes sure the listener listens to the piece entirely. if it was in a cd format, the temptation to skip or fast forward is more present. with the cassette, it's a pain in the ass.
i think at some points when i listen to pieces, i think "hmm i'm not in the mood for this slow build up" but i don't want to fast forward cause it sucks on a cassette player. so i sit there and listen and eventually love the piece as a whole. that's what i think. kind of like how david lynch never separates his movies into chapters when they're released on dvd. plus the actual cassette looks cooler, it's cheaper and i consider it part of the art. |

Thanks.
Mine definitely only has audio coming out of one channel. Bummer I listened to about half of the tape and turned it off. |
