That place looks ace, if it was based in the UK I'd be using it right now.
Does anyone know any UK-based companies, otherwise very cheap companies that do cardboard cases (a la GY!BE, Boris/Merzbow, Vibracathedral Orchestra, This Heat and to a lesser extent Primus)? I find that they have more appeal than the standard clattery, scratchy, easy-to-snap jewel case. |

there's also a huge data base for putting out cds, vinyl, tapes, cases, artwork, mastering, etc. on the i heart noise forum. the last vinyl pressing plant in all of mexico was very near here but it's been close for more than ten years. |

don't forget Peter King: http://home.comcast.net/~cassetto/kingworldwide.html
He's done records for L. Ranaldo, NNCK, Birchville Cat Motel, Six Organs, Acid Mothers Temple, and all those other heartwarming bands y'all love...

Buy a whole bunch of bristol board, or whatever material you wish, and fold it up! (I made a limited run of THREE CDS using a torn up shirt!!!!!!) (that last bit is a minor joke, but I actually did make three copies of a few songs my band did [packaged in a torn up and glued together t-shirt] and gave one to my friend, and kept one, and bandmate took the last...) hah...

when i had time, i used to make sleeves for my bootlegs.
and i did a sleeve for the first release on my label, i hand made them all myself, buncha (thin) cardboard, glue and a cutter. ian mackaye said that when they started dischord, they literally dismantled record jackets to see how they were assambled so they could do it right. |

It sounds cool, but at DIY I fail. I encounter problems sticking posters to walls FFS! And Everyneurotic, yeah, that's what I mean, but more of the style of a doublevinyl (CD slit at one side, wallet at the other). I'm still looking for somewhere right now; I don't think most of the companies I send enquiries too take me seriously.

yeah, gatefolds, i've made a couple of those too, i did an sy '90 boot exactly like the lift yr skinny fists... package, except with different art of course.
i don't recommend you go to a manufacturer since they probably won't take a small order, and even if they do, they would charge you a lot. my advice is to go to a friend who would do it for you or go to printing shop or something similar and ask them, also people and/or places who make scale models can help you. |

Thank-you, we have a printing shop a bike ride away or so I remember. I have Skinny Fists on vinyl (as well as that ltd. edish f#a# (infinity) with the train-flattened coin), it's great in every way. Would a printing shop supply you with the gatefold cardboard as well as possibly a plastic holder-thing for the CD itself? (if not a slit would do)

you have to ask, every place is different; if you have the time and would like to do some research, find out if there's a cd printing plant where you live and see if you can find out where they get their supplies, if it's somewhere in town or near, you might want to check out and ask for what you are looking for, but chances are they mail order their stuff and well, it's a real drag to do all that, isn't it?
but ask them anyway. |
