this was the first album i got by them when i was but an impresionable youngster and i used to play it at full volume for all to cower to. it was also the first one with bruce dickinson on it, a turning point in the history of this band.

Has a galloping bassline ever sounded better than on this album? Of course not. This album influenced countless bands over 'ere, and many a metal neophyte got to love the taste of metal through Dickinson and Co.

That's your answer to everything! "Scarlett Johansson - should come with a free curry and four cans of Stella" Anyway, back on topic - seeing the video for "Run To The Hills" at an early age on Top Of The Pops was surely impressive.

I own or am familiar with all the Iron Maiden albums up to and including Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (1988, I believe), and as far as I'm concerned, The Number of The Beast is one of their weakest and most inconsistent records. In fact, the only two that have really stood the test of time are Piece of Mind from the Bruce Dickinson years, and their self-titled debut (not countimg The Soundhouse Tapes ) from the Paul Di'anno years. That first full-length is still a killer, and I manage to pop it on the turntable every few months. If you're a fan of classic Detroit rock, you should check it out--it reeks of Alice Cooper, The Stooges and MC5.

I can't stand Iron Maiden. Then again, I generally can't stand metal or even early metal.

I like me some Maiden now and then. I remember when MTV played the shit outta Bruce Dickinson's cover of All The Young Dudes.
