You would think Thurston's lyric writing would be more elevated by now (with years of wisdom and experience), but he's simply [whispering] the poetic truths of high school journal keepers. Very sophomoric. Very cringe, IMO.

Thurston and Kim both wrote absolutely fine lyrics up until circa 2000 when Thurston decided he was a poet and Kim became a cultural commentator

One could argue Kim has always been a cultural commentor, even since the debut EP, however, she simply did it in a more artful, less direct approach.
