well, I had my first HIV/STD screening test this morning and it was pretty nerve racking. I was asked pretty explicit questions and the nurse did some swabs in places where you don't wanna know. Happy to say though that I'm negative. I was really sweating it though waiting for my results.
God, I can't even begin to imagine what it must feel like being told you're positive... How did everyone else find their first testing experience? |

A-I-D-S!
H-I-V! I can not wait to die. Can you tell? Can't you tell? Can you tell? I was negative as of one year ago.

Glad you came out negative.
I had to get one for STD screening a few months back. I found it very painful, but I later had another test that involved a camera, and it was much more painful because it lasted a good 2 minutes. Yeah, when they question you it can be kind of personal too. I have to go back every 6 months now for a CAT scan for a cancer risk.

then it's just routine. another fucking blood test. big deal. negative, negative, negative. had to do one for syphillis before getting married in dc. hilarious! |

Yeah, couldn't they just tell from your inane babblings alone that the spirochetes had already made oatmeal out of your brain? |

i should probably have one (never have) but i'm really embarassed about that sort of thing. i know that they see much worse every day etc but i just can't bring myself to get tested. i'm 99% sure i couldn't have anything anyways

Sounds like they were checking for something else as well...HIV testing is just a blood test - that's what they've done for me. What pissed me off was the last time I went to give blood the Red Cross were asking extremely personal questions on my sexual activity in an open public area...it pissed me off enough that I'll never give blood again unless its for someone specific. |

the blood donating system is so fucked up.
it pisses me off beyond belief that they wont let gay men give blood.

yah, i had a full STD screening test, hence the swabs. Thinking back on it I had a needle inside me on various parts on my body on four occasion. had to clench my teeth as you can probably imagine. BUT it's all worth it. I am glad that I'm now in the knowledge that I'm a disease free man. It's worse walking around not knowing what or what not you might have. you can never ever be 100% sure... I was so shocked when the nurse told me that 1 in 5 gay men in London is HIV positive, and even more shocking is the fact that a good proportion of them don't even know it!! it certainly IS enough to put me off sex for live, but hey, it's all about being sensible and safe. Kinda made me think about that movie Kids where you can can always be safe, and then that one time you take a risk and that's it, you've contracted HIV vs. the guy who sleeps around like it's going out of fashion, unsafe and all, and doesn't contract anything. 'tis the name of the game... |

oh, and can i also just mention on more thing that was really funny and amusingly fitted in with the moment - in the little waiting room there was a stereo pumping out music. while i was waiting for my HIV results they played Another One Bites the Dust by Queen. Can you believe it?!?! While i was waiting!! Freddy who died of Aids singing that to me sitting there waiting on my results. What a moment... |
