This has nothing to do with anything, but it would be cool if Sonic Youth toured Trees Outside the Academy as Thurston Moore and the Sonics (since Thurston Moore Quartet has been taken) or something more witty to that affect.

I thought he was touring this as "Thurston"....personally I find that assuming too much, like here's my pal Thurston's new record. On a totally different topic if there was ever any question Dino Jr reformed to milk the corporate teat, there is none now. They were filming some shit at the Filmore or Ritz or whatever its called this past weekend, and there were big fliers posted on either side of the venue that noted BRANDNAME cigarettes were sponsoring this. The font for BRANDNAME cigarettes was bigger than the font for the bands. Why do gigs need to be sponsored anyway? Aren't the ticket fees enough? You mean if BRANDNAME cigarettes wasn't sponsoring the gig they'd have to charge even more? |

Fo anyone needing a reminder, this is now available. Or, at least, I just received an email from cdjapan saying it's been despatched.

It looks like it is supposed to be possible to hear clips through the Tower Records and HMV sites, but they're not working for me.
Tower Records HMV There is also a page for the CD on the Columbia Japan site, but no sign of any streaming / downloads: http://columbia.jp/artist-info/thurston/COCB-53675.html |

Just back from holiday and the CD was awaiting me. Blasted track one so far, which opens with some gorgeous feedback drizzle which is slowly injected with stabbing flourishes of horn...

Fantastic, isn't it? They work extremely well as a 4tet.

Sweet, sweet release. I just love it. Some parts remind me of Coltrane's Meditations. Do I have to say again that SY should add a horn section to the band?

finally ordered my copy i waited to see if it would show up domestically, but it hasn't... i'm assuming the sound quality is quite good since its on Columbia... also can it be confirmed if this is a live recording or a studio session? the reason being is i remember talking to chris corsano when he played here w/ paul (which was kinda a regular thing until he moved to to scotland) this was back when the "live @ tonic" disc just came out and anyways he was telling me about some wild burning studio session that the 4 of them did that was pretty amazing that he was hoping would eventually get released but that was being held up in some post-mastering thing... |

Thurston Moore Quartet - The Roadhouse Session Vol. 1 CD
Same line up as Live At Tonic (Wally Shoup, Paul Flaherty, Thurston Moore & Chris Corsano). This is a studio recording from Sept. 2002, unintentionally aged for 5 years in the incapable hands of the drummer and then rescued from obscurity by Jim O'Rourke for Japanese Columbia. |
