I only recently discovered SY, but already I have bought their 15 studio-albums. I am, off course, totally blown away. Sister, DDN, EVOL and Murray Street are mye favorites so far, but every recording has some great moments. I must buy the SYR`S now. Any thoughts on these ep`s?
Cheers anyway..

I've been meaning to pick them up for ages but I can't find them anywhere in Australia. Good luck with Norway!

If you like the "noisier-impro" side of the band you won't be disappointed at all listening to the syr releases. Kinda "simplistic" sentence, but I think it sums it up good enough .

guys buy them on ebay or from the official store! you might have to wait a bunch of weeks but it's worth it and easier than searching all your nation's stores

An SYR boxset should be released to put them all together.

i'm in the same situation as you, i've got all the albums except NYC, but i don't know whether or not the SYR series is for me gathering from 30 seconds clips i heard on itunes (then again bad moon rising was represented poorly in it's 30 second clips so it must be itunes), i guess i just need to determine myself to buy one, i'd probably start from the beginning with these.

Hello Thor. Basically, I would say that SYRs 1, 3 and 6 are essential pieces of Sonic Youth genius.

i already have most of them on cd (and all downloaded), but i decided i should buy them on vinyl (aside from 6 for obvious reasons). i would start buying the "real" albums on vinyl, but i don't feel like searching and paying high prices for the studio albums. i'll just stick to my cd collection.

In my opinion, SYR4 is the best by far (haven't heard SYR6 though). In fact, I would make the argument that SYR4 is the best SY music since 'Bad Moon Rising' era

go and buy them all in order. each one is abeing onto itself and cannot and should not be compared and contrasted..... i love syr4 for what it is and what it stands for. for pure sy riffage, 1 and 2 rule. for madness go for 5 and for the freak out jazz blast shit thing go for 6. 3 is ok if you need time alone in a darkened room. just buy them all....... you are worth it!
