I've only got enough money for one right now. I know I'll end up getting both, but which should I get first?

transylvanian hunger was the record that sparked my interest and eventual love of black metal, and is still my favorite. its very heavy and fucked up, but has a lo fi production than gives it a fucked upness and rawness lacking in a lot of the more symphonic metal bands. marvelous record, one of my favorites ever, get it.
under a funeral moon is good too, get that as well, but after.

It has to be T.H. for me, even if they put that stupid anti-semitic press release out in the early 90's.

i vote for transilvanian hunger too; no bullshit-core.
i love the whole controversy of the th press release "yeah, we said jews suck!!" "errmmm, fenriz, nocturno; shops don't want to carry your album and we're considering not releasing it because it's not going to be sold anywhere" "WHAT?!! sorry, we take it back, we want to sell records...yeah, we didn't mean it!!" ---- today i bought an under a funeral moon t-shirt, it's pretty sweet. |

I loved that press release. It definitely increased their sales in the Lebanon, I know that.

Fenriz is a bit of a genius on the music front - he actually said for T.H. that he wanted to drums to be right in the background, and the guitars to be really up-front. I'm not joking when I say that the guitars on that album have an atonality and presence which matches S Youth and G Branca anyday. In fact, it's better than the aforementioned for pure energy.

I like Darkthrone in the same way that I like early Mayhem. They're both bands that, although clearly influential on BM, can't simply be reduced to it. Deathcrush and Transilvanian Hunger are like some weird take on metal which is almost a genre unto itself. As much as I like a band like Emperor or Immortal, they're black metal, and that's it.

I sold an original of Transilvanian Hunger for a ridiculously enormous sum of money this week at work. I was shocked.

I imagine the BM scene has a shit-load of collectible vinyls. Alot of the big Norwegian bands probably put out early EPs on some tiny labels.

I've just ordered Transilvanian Hunger. Thanks for helping me in this time of indecisiveness.
