worms are like a living digestive system with nearly nothing else in them. they eat clumps of dirt and digest the organic biots and shit out the dirt
without them soil would not aerate and plants could not lay down their roots.

Yuck...
Worms are hermaphrodites. Each worm has both male and female organs. There are approximately 2,700 different kinds of earthworms. In one acre of land, there can be more than a million earthworms. The largest earthworm ever found was in South Africa and measured 22 feet from its nose to the tip of its tail. Charles Darwin spent 39 years studying earthworms more than 100 years ago. Baby worms are not born. They hatch from cocoons smaller than a grain of rice. Worms mate by joining their clitella (swollen area near the head of a mature worm) and exchanging sperm. Then each worm forms an egg capsule in its clitellum. Worms can eat their weight each day.

I've always been interested in the imaginary of deep, trance-like states of hopelss depression which involve worms, ever since my brother, who suffers from manic depression, described me some of his nightmares when he isn't able to cope by himself at night. From the little I can associate with them because of a lack of more in depth knowledge, they seem to signify both a state of death and one of forced re-birth, all in their nightmarish physicality.

I remember two things about dissecting a worm:
1. Wow formaldehyde smells awful 2. Wow worms have a lot of semen in them |

If you cut a worm in half, both halves will still be alive. Ha. I think they have like 5 hearts or something.
