I've stopped going too.
My hometown theater shows the basic crap the US send to make us want to be like them. Dumb and dubbed, two reasons not to go. Paris is over an hour trip. I'd like to go there the way I used to do when I was younger, and catch a film at 9:00 a.m. to pay less than €6 but it's too boring. And I don't enjoy paying more than €10. I missed Jerzy Skolimowski's last picture that way. Subbed. I remember seeing Pulp Fiction and feeling thrilled hearing Harvey Keitel's voice, knowing it was him, when he was not in the frame. Dubbing can be fun though. When it comes to, well, not movies. Actors in Calimero, the cartoon, used to add whatever came through their heads whenever the chicken turned his back on the viewers. One more dubbing anecdote: Old guys and girls probably remember Goldorak. You know what happened to them? I mean, Arcturus and the professor? They joined the German police and changed their names. Arcturus became a lieutenant, and the professor became... inspector Derrick. Same voices, exactly. I like to see it as the continuity of the cartoon, and I wonder whether they felt happy saving the world, given their reward. |

Yo, girl, you are right on. One time my bf Dave (Pincho) and I went to see "The Blair Witch Project" when it first came out. The audience was in suspense but Dave was so wasted he laughed during all the scary parts. And every time he laughed he spewed half-chewed-up popcorn in my face. We were finally escorted out by the nice gentleman with the flashlight. ha |

I'm gonna see it to hopefully get a glimpse of Eli Roth's cock.
* Inglourious Basterds, that is... |

This is why I think everyone needs to learn Esperanto. This way, we have a fall back language when we aren't versed in the local tongue.
No more cultural misunderstandings, nothing "lost in translation". Universal language is the first step toward harmony among all races, nations, and people. They could release all the books, music, movies, and television in Esperanto, and just have public access and local programming in whatever the local language is, since no one from outside the area (or in many cases, the area itself) gives a crap about it.

I watch ALL my movies at the theater with subtitles, I just can't understand why some people prefer the dubbed version, it's just so lame and awful, it can totally change your vision of the movie !
Gonna see Inglorious Basterds too, on August 19th 7 DAYS LEFT !

it's not usual here, except for children oriented content.
our problem is the lack of good independent theaters. |
