I have seen that there is a live cd titled Sonic Death which came out in the Confusion era. Is it a bootleg or is it official? Does anyone know where I can purchase it online if possible?

It's official, though I have no idea where you'd get it these days. Egay?

it's a collage of early live recordings, some of which can be found as bonus tracks on the recently reissued s/t LP

Correct me if I'm wrong (and you will), but wasn't this originally a cassette-only release. I had the cassette for many years but it became unplayable, as is the way with cassettes. I didn't think enough of it to make me go to great lengths to replace it though.

I'm pretty sure I've seen it on CD. I don't know if that was some kind of reissue though.

It's not IMPOSSIBLE to find on cd. It was reissued twice in the 80s I think. Once by Blast First and then by SST. (accurate?). But, about the only places you can find it are e-bay and amazon.com and then be prepared to shell out $25+ for it, shipping not included. I got my copy from a music dealer in NYC via Japan about a year ago for $18 plus shipping.

I still have the original cassette only release. it sounds fantastic. the B side is the first dside backwards just like the original sonic youth sonic youth which I also have on cassette. the backwards parts are cool too.
