Priests are only in catholic and episcopalian churches. Actually, people are still defective no matter what they do, religious leaders are not very important.

Sure, there is some ammount of guilt in the belief of a perfect being god. It is because of the existence of the idea of perfection that we believe we are imperfect. One of the main teachings of most religions is how to overcome that. Christians believe that Christ died for their imperfections so that they could join God in the afterlife. Christianity is more about being thankful of God's love. Most religions have a way to overcome their distress.
