Hi dOOdz
I get to read a reference to the FALL in just about every thread on the board and i don't know much about them, What i've heard i didn't really get into... Here is yr mission: Recommend me THE album to own by THE FALL. not two, not three, not four don't give me the usual top 50 list, i'm too broke but i really want to own at least one, get used to the sound and maybe want to dive a little bit more later. That many boardies can't be wrong, so i need to investigate more. i said ONE only I really want my edgy indie rock riffs and really liked the batch of Fall SY covered if that's of any help. grotesque (after the gramme)... it's as good as this:
It's got all their best songs on it... how i wrote elastic man, the nwra, c'n'c's mithering, etc. Perverted by Language would be my favorite but I'm not a huge eat yourself fitter fan. |

I'm not sure, but I know enough to take Adam's word on The Fall.

The starters are 50,000 Fall fans and Hex...
Personally, I'd say Perverted by Language. I started with Levitate, which remains one of my favourites.

You could do a lot worse that pick up "Imperial Wax Solvent", in me humble opinion - probably one of the better releases by the Gruppe this decade, and it does has the fabulous "50 Year Old Man" on it too...

I'd go with Perverted by Language too, although This Nation's Saving Grace would be another good starting point.
Although I like it as an album, I don't think Imperial Wax Solvent would work all that well as an introduction. I'd stick with the classic Brix-era albums. So as you asked for only one: |

Wow. I've been posting here since 2001, and I think that's the first time that two whole people have agreed with me off the bat.
Yes. Perverted by Language. It's got enough murk and confusion, and enough silly, and enough things to melt the brave souls who take it on.

My favourite is strangely Live At The Witch Trials. I don't know why but it just seems so much more interesting than other Fall records (though to call other Fall records uninteresting is a joke in itself).

You do still exist here! Huzzah! (I likely said that last time you posted and I was actually reading the thread).

I've read through threads on here from when this new version of the board started. And everytime I see Hip Priest post, it ALWAYS seems to be about The Fall. Crazy. Man loves his Fall.

Hex Endunction Hour is stunning. Just amazing. One of the best of the 80s. Buy it. "The Classical" is THE Fall track at least.

If I absolutely had to pick only one, Live at the Witch Trials. However, This Nation's Saving Grace and Hex Enduction Hour are incredibly close.

Yeah, each represents one very positive extreme of the band. Witch Trials is significantly lower fidelity and closer to their punk roots (though I shudder to use that word to describe them) while This Nation's Saving Grace takes on the art/prog influences without losing their grounding. |
