Post bands or whatever from your area that have a big local following but aren't really known outside it.
I'll start. D Double E (Newham, East London) Known mostly as part of the slightly more well known Newham Generals, his solo stuff is far better though. This clip is a couple of years old, but my fave anyway. There's also this stupidly good instrumental for his track Anger Management. Not really D Double cos there's no actual mcing on it. Either way, it's still probably about 15 x better than anything else you've listened to today. |

The only really interesting musician in my particular neck of the woods (and I do live in the woods) is Jiro Shoda of the New Jazz Syndicate. He's played with Kaoru Abe and quite a few other free jazz legends, but is pretty much unknown in his own right. Crazy motherfucker, that one. He runs a jazz cafe near my house.

You know, there are or have been at least 50 pretty cool bands and probably 10-15 amazing bands to come out of my town of 50,000 people in the past 5 years. They're all friends of mine on www.myspace.com/adamcooley if you're curious. Everything from psych rock to residents-style stuff to captain beefheart-style stuff to surf rock to electronic pop to musical styles that have never been invented. Some truely amazing music has been created in my area.
Or check the links in my sig for stuff I've worked on that isn't as amazing. |

Well, I technicallu have two home towns. Both scenes are kinda drab right now. Boston has some great musicians, but they always go to New York. Tucson's scene is mainly dominated by 19th rate metalcore bands, which is a tragedy considering how inspring a place the desert can be. I'm constantly on the search for cool Desert Rock shit, after all, this state birthed the Meat Puppets and Sun City Girls. Pheonix has a better scene, I'll post some bands later. Sadly the best local band I've seen in Tucson this year was a Grateful Dead cover band who just played dead songs with lots of reverb and distortion and delay, I was stoned real good and it was fun as hell.
