It's the quintessential Sonic Youth song. It represents them in the height of their glory...They had passed through the mire of such badly made albums as Sister and finally started making albums that were more catchy and well-produced. They should have gone even more "pop" oriented after that.

No, I haven't heard all of it...But yeah, what I heard totally rawks! I can't wait to declare that it's better than everything else they've ever done. I also love the cover art.

You would be in the majority then, along with the other sadly mistaken folks on here.

I like the video...and that guitar part that repeats after the section where Chuck D says "let everybody know." It makes me want to go into a mosh pit, go crazy and knock saturnine and assblaster down on the ground again and again.

Just a different way of spelling, still pronounces the same word...

I like Kool Thing, but My Friend Goo is one of my least favorite SY songs. I'm not sure why.

Kool Thing is great, but I think Schizophrenia is the quintessential SY tune. Not necessarily the best, but if I could play only one song for someone to show them what SY is about, that would be the one. It incorporates so much of what makes them a great band: dissonance, unusual composition, dense, blurry chordal riffing, soft, beautiful harmonics and both Thurston and Kim on vocals.

I would say the quintessential SY tune is Teenage Riot. Its probably the song theyre most well known for (among non-fans, at least) and its probably the song they play most often at their shows.

sadly enough, in the two times ive seen them, they never played kool thing. I know a lot of the people here are sick of seeing it live, but i really hope they play it this time around.

if there is one song that sums up sonic youth in my mind then that would have to be sugar cane. i don't know why its one of the first songs that i ever heard by them and i really love it.
