Sorry to hear. I spend a few hours today fighting some really nasty spyware that hijacked my google searches. I think I've finally got rid of it now.
I'm still wondering how it got onto my computer, because I don't just install every random bit of software or visit dodgy websites. On top of that fucking Norton internet security and Spybot both failed to protect me against it and worse, couldn't even detect it. Neither did Ad-Aware, Malware Bytes and Kaspersky. |

^^^ norton might as well be spyware for all I'm concerned.
http://www.hijackthis.de/ <--- if you still have problems, try running this to see where the hijack is occuring. if you are confident enough in yr abilities, you can then edit the registry yrself. also, up until the latest update, there was a nasty hole in flash that would allow you to become infected (on a PC) through ads on website. if you do not run a mac, try using firefox with the no-script addon enabled. |

Yeah, after today I've officially declared Norton as being shit, but neither of the other programs could detect it either. A combination of Hijackthis, Combofix, SDFix and rebooting in safe mode several times managed to do the job eventually.
As for Russian porn sites, stop PM-ing me all those links, man! edit: ^^yeah, that's what did the job, floating one. thanks. i am running firefox w/ no-script addon. the only thing i could think of is my java being outdated (until today that is). edit edit: will check on flash too, but i think that's updated recently. |

Yeah, avoid mcafee and Norton like the plague. Best A/V software on the market right now is NOD32. Tons of cracked versions floating around. Other options are Avast! as well. AVG used to be decent, but it fucking sucks now.

yes, virus scanners are a fraud. System recovery tends to be the solution, and even then...
but after putting my essentials on flash drives, a few hail marys and destructive recovery it is back from the dead, or at least dying state it was in.
