Over the years some similarities SY have cited CCR as an influence...
Where in their catalogue can you see this? A) Bad Moon Rising

Some of Sonic Nurse reminds me of 'Born On The Bayou' for some weird reason, its probably in the structure or something.

I don't know.
I saw John Fogerty a year or so ago though. It was a great show, but a very shitty night for several reasons.

I have a mint condition vinyl copy of Green River. So many good, forgotten songs on that album.

Their influence isnt really audible unless you are some hack pretentious rock journalist who gets off on analogies.

Am I the only one that doesn't compare SY to most rock. It is impossible to lump them in with a bunch of other bands....

"Keep on Choogin'" by CCR reminds me quite a bit of a Sonic Youth tune structurally. The "Intro" to "Brave Men Run" reminds me a bit of Fogerty's guitar style.
There is definitely an influence to be found (obviously especially around the BMR era), and it's one of the rare instances where I think SY, even Thurston, wasn't bullshitting in the interviews. That said, and influence doesn't mean a copycat thing and SY at the same time sited influences that I can also hear from Throbbing Gristle to the MC5 to Madonna, so don't look too hard. |

Come to think of it, I don't compare them either. Their variety is such that many bands can't even claim that diversity. I guess if pressed, the only band I can think of with such diversity from song to song, album to album would be that Liverpool insect band that changed pop music as we know it starting in the early 60s. I saw John Fogerty last December and being a great show, I never even thought of Sonic Youth.

There are patent Velvet Underground, Stooges, Television, Talking Heads, Joy Division, The Fall, Neil Young, Beach Boys, and so on influences in SY. Sorry but they're not that "unique", in sound at least.
