Finally rejoined the ranks of the initiated; now all I need is to start building up my queue. I had such a nice one back in the day-- i had all of Kurosawa, and was working my way through it!
But anyway, life starts again; I remember hearing about this guy from India just the other day, but I'm too lazy to search the forum. Someone Kurosawa worshipped. So-- please give me some nice movie titles I've never seen. Yes, you can read my mind for this purpose. I want cult, historical, obscure, must-see, and definitely not mainstream Hollywood. Gracias. |

cinephiles yay!
I wonder what people would think if I wrote that DDN was probably a good album, but that I just don't know because I've never heard it. Drugstore Cowboy came out way back in 1989. |

Seconded. Although if you haven't seen any Suzuki before I'd recommend Branded to Kill and Tokyo Drifter of Youth of the Beast. Although all 3 are ace. Branded is interesting if you've seen Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai because you will be able to spot a few bits that Jimmy Jarmusch paid 'homage' to (ie ripped off). Also, if you haven't seen any Teshigahara then I'd remedy that. Not sure which ones are available in R1 yet...I think Criterion is doing, or has just done a box set. Anyway, Woman of the Dunes, Pitfall and Face of Another are all essential viewing. And it goes without saying but if there is any Herzog you haven't got round to seeing then it would worth rectifying that. Especially if you haven't seen Aguirre, Fitzcarraldo, Strozek, Even Dwarves Started Small or Fata Morgana. |

Strozek is a must see. Arguably his best...certainly up there with his best and one of the best endings in cinema. Lux will back me up on this one.
