If you could live with the same standard of living that you currently have but had the opportunity to live anywhere else in the world (bearing in mind that if you currently earn a basic wage you'd earn that place's equiv.) would you consider doing it, and if so where would you ideally go?
I'm on the cusp of completing my PhD and this is becoming a very real option for me: teaching at a university in a foreign country. The world is a very large and exciting place, but where to go? |

I'm really hot on Spain at the moment... just got back from an amazing trip to madrid. But my city of choice would probably be Barcelona.
I would also love to shred it in the Big Apple for a while...

probably some nice city in sweden, Malmo, maybe even Stockholm.
spain is a really good option too, but I like colder places. Toxic Johnny, do the "cordoba siviglia granada" triplet next time you have the chance to plan a trip to spain, smaller but great cities. |

it'd be france for me, please. i've always felt very comfortable there. not paris, though, somewhere a bit more provincial.

swden is nice but a bit boring, I found. Barcelona is a fantastic city but it just gets so hot. Like Nicfit, I prefer colder climates, but I'm so sick of Europe - the main option for moderate climates - at least in the north.
Because of the language issue, the USA is the obvious choice for me - work wise. New York I love, but I like the idea of somewhere a bit off the usual compass. I'm just so fucking bored with England at the moment. Chicago really appeals to me, despite the fact that I've never actually been there! Although I'm supposed to be giving a conference paper next February at Univ. of Chicago, so that'd be a good way of checking it out. |

japland costs a lot they say...
yeah, sweden isn't much exciting, but honestly I don't need a super hyped place, I like calm places with nice spots . some nice music clubs over there. |

Actually Nicfit I was planning on visiting Cadiz and Seville next, so I will be in that neck of the woods. I'll look into Cordoba and Granada as well

Yeah, but I'm not sure if I could deal with the culture shock. Something tells me I'd not be that suited to the Japanese mindset. I get the feeling I'd just start embarrasing them all just by saying hello. |
