i narrowed down to two books. i haven't read any newer gibson so i'm kind of leaning towards pattern recognition, but my friend highly recommends snow crash. he has both books, so i can borrow either one.

can't say, still haven't read snow crash. pattern recognition was good, but spook country was better. imo.

although if it weren't for the poll i was going to say the new york times.

yeah, is spook country out in paperback? i was thinking about getting the hardcover, but it's like 30 bucks and i'm not a big fan of hardcover books.

i read the ny times last time i went up, but i bought it one hour before my trip so i read most of it by the time my plane took off.

I love both books, and am currently reading Spook Country. I voted for Snow Crash, however, as it seems the more plane friendly of the books. Turbulence might add to the experience of reading it.

william gibson is such a predictable thing for a sonic youth fan to read, so go for the other one.

I haven't read either of those either.

the Neuromancer and Virtual Light series, Burning Chrome and The Difference Engine are the only Gibson books I've read so far.

I plan to eventually get them all, but I was too tired to go to the bookstore the other night, so I started reading King's Dark Tower series again (for the third time).

I need more Gibson.

shit i didn't know there were seven books now!

i read the entire gunslinger series twice - once in 1989 when it consisted of 2 books and once in 1992 when it was a trilogy!

it was good. i don't remember any obvious cliffhanger, i thought every thing was already wrapped up... it seemed like a good trilogy. what's the deal - he turns into a worm, lives thousands of years ruling the universe and filling up more and more books with increasinly boring tales of worminess?

dead-on on Dune.

the Dark Tower keeps getting better (until the very last page of the last book...).

that's kind of what i thought about cryptonomicon.

i picture stephenson sitting at his laptop hammering away until suddenly he realizes he's just written 900 pages. he tacks on a 10 page chapter entitled long story short, here's what happens in the end, and ships it off to his publisher.

if you do find yrself reading the last Dark Tower book (The Dark Tower), and you come to the part where King says "stop reading now if you liked this series", do yrself a favor.....STOP reading.

I suggest bringing the Dark Tower board game and forcing the passenger next to you to play it with you.
