Fuck youtube. killertunes from dime replied to my request of a capture and seed of the broadcast with this:
I'll record it tonight, when it's being shown in Canada, to my DVD recorder and share it here tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up! |

saw it last nite, weird abbreviated version of Benediction... overall it sounded slightly unnatural, probably from just being familiar with the album length version, squishing the beginning, middle and end. they were playing Martin guitars, how fancy! did John Moloney shave his head recently? Dave had a crush on the harpist and din't shake Thurston's hand...

Letterman (or at least the show, and one thinks that means him in some way) has really been incredibly supportive of Sonic Youth through the years. Even so I was surprised to hear Thurston solo would make it on. Almost as cool as Fear on SNL.

Anyone know if the Savage Pencil "Teenage Riot" shirt he's wearing is available or is that a vintage piece?

Yo! That's me matey! I did capture it but it's an analog to DVD recorder recording so I was kinda hoping someone would upload an HD version. I will upload it to dime and here though if a better version doesn't pop up soon. |

Letterman shook the other musicians' hands, but not Thurston's. I think it's because Thurston was seated right in front of him and would have had to turn around rather awkwardly to reach Dave. I imagine someone unfamiliar with Thurston seeing this show and thinking "Wow! That was beautiful." And then I can imagine this person getting Demolished Thoughts and really enjoying it. And then he wants to hear some more, so he buys Confusion is Sex and then, all of the sudden it's like "Whoa! Lock the doors and hide the children, Betty!"

The more I listen to "Demolished Thoughts" the more I like it. Hoping more recordings will surface, seeing a live performance seems like an impossible dream to me. I thought the "Benediction" performance on Late Night with David Letterman was pretty lovely.
