I just started building my own one.
So far it's very modest, just have a few modules. God, it chews up money fast.

oh yeah. modular is my favorite instrument. wide variety of sounds, infinite possibilities. but sooooo expensive just for a basic setup. i have a semi modular moog werkstatt and when i save up enough money i'm going to compliment it w a make noise 0-coast. and then add more modules after that.

0-coast is great from what I've seen.

My approach is to accomplish a live audio processing device for playing live -> I want to feed it with stereo signal either from computer or from Analog Four Synth

My modules so far:
- Mutable Instruments Clouds granular synth (to serve as treatment of audio in)
- XAOC Batumi LFO (to put Clouds into some movement)
- Intellijet Triatt triple attenuator (to tame the LFO modulation)
- Erica Synth Black Hole DSP (stereo delay/reverb, to get some space)
- Bastl Instruments Cinnamon (simple filter/distortion)

edit - new additions:

- Epoch Modular Benjolin - chaotic VCO to provide various sound sources
- Music Thing Modular Radio Music - sample player
- Pittsburgh Modular Outs+Mix/Mult - utility modules

i really liked playing with multiple high and low pass frequency resonators in reaktor, and i'm looking into settting up something similar w modules. it seems there are plenty to choose from.

I find modular to be the oddest trend, not in terms of the music that you guys are obviously making but more so this proclivity among techno producers to use a modular to create a 4/4 with some bloops on top. in that sphere it seems like pure fetishism, using a tool to imbue your music with some sorta warped cultural/intellectual value. which isn't to say that when placed in the right hands it can't be really great, and I'm loving it for shifting listeners' attentions back to live music in particular, giving ordinarily quite tepid music at least some sense of volatility.

sure thing and good point about 4/4 techno music from modulars - utter waste of money. Much better investment in this case would be some good drummachines, synths and to mix it all up in software DAW and you save 2-3thousand USD.

I've been giving this a proper thought before actually purchasing my first modules, and said to myself that I'd use a compact and suitcase-sized system for live improvised non-linear electronics with nice analogue sound (analogue VCOs and filters). As soon as I come near my Analog Four/Octatrack HW combo or computer, I always float around stuff with rhythm, and modular synth enables me to make some free floating generative stuff.

looks good and fancy, though for you, maybe the 0-coast synth would be more suitable

https://www.perfectcircuitaudio.com/...e-0-coast.html

as it's compact, it's stand-alone (not Eurorack) and can create some weird-ass noises that you like. check out some videos. For example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EdnWQqlerc

plus, it has midi, so you can sequence with Ableton Live.

Shit, I sold all of my stuff like 2 years ago but now I feel that the rabbit hole keeps dragging me in again. I spend whole days watching videos on modular gear.
