From the February 2009 "All About Jazz":
TEXT OF LIGHT Alan Licht, Lee Ranaldo, DJ Olive, & William Hooker Issue Project Room 8pm $10 If my memory serves me correctly, Issue Project Room is at 223 Centre Street/2nd Floor, near corner of Centre & Grand or someplace a bit north of Canal. |

You're thinking of Experimental Intermedia. Issue Project Room is in Brooklyn on corner of 3rd St and 3rd Ave, just a little east of Gowanus canal.

Very enjoyable set last night, I felt it took 10 mins or so to get into it but then they just seared, other than William's powerful percussion I really couldn't tell who was making what sound, and in fact I was paying attention to the films. I remembered several of the films from previous shows. Full but not packed house. Its weird, there was that Kitchen show that was sold out and then the Flea Theater show with like 6 people...I never know what the turnout will be like. I thnk I've now seen ToL more times than SY!
There was an opener band. They eventually finished. |

I think the fact they projected the films on that back wall was a good choice, though IPR already has that big wall-sized screen, so anytime you have visuals there you know it will be good.
One film that they played to was Leger's Ballet Mecanique, see here (original film, not show footage): http://www.ubu.com/film/leger.html Gary Lucas played to the same film night before at the WFC Wintergarden Almost forgot- Lee smashed his chair around a bit in the middle of the show, maybe an homage to Thurston from Super Bowl Sunday... |
