I don't have my own, so I am forced (not forced, but...) to mooch off another connection. It works fine, but when I raise my hand to scratch my head, I lose my connection. And of course, this only makes me scratch my head more.

At my mom's I'm able to pick up someone else's connection...it's actually a lot faster than the connection at my dad's house that he pays for. But I don't need to do this anymore because we just started paying for our own at my mom's, and now I don't have to sit in the same place all the time.

for the first 6 months in my new apartment, we leeched off of the hippies who lived under us, but when they moved out, we were forced to get our own. i wanted to stick it to the man, but i can't live without internet.

Yeah, I have to bum a wireless connection from the neighbors because no one offers internet in this little town for less than $50 a month.

There's wireless in my apt., but when I want to get on the phone I just hop on another wireless connection from somewhere else in this complex....
It works fine, most of the time. OH and I have a desktop with a USB 'antenna'.....heheheee.. *oh and for your info Washing Machine.....you right-click on your 'connection' icon and "view available wireless connections"....and then just CONNECT !! Easy as pie !

ahh okay.
My friends' wireless connections are so weak they hardly reach from the kitchen to the bedroom. (and this is Wales so houses are quite small)

Bummer !
There are also 3 stages of sensitivity in the USB wireless 'antennas' you can get for a computer that doesn't have it built in. I got the middle one and it's decent. But close proximity definately is necessary. I was in a motel where the router was 200 feet away and I was constantly losing my connection. Routers need to be powered up too...I think.

Washing Machine, my connection reaches up 2 stories, who is this you're talking about?
My computer can pick up loads of connections at home, but most of the owners have been clever enough to put security. One of my friends scrounged someones for a while and it was quite good. |
