How does Sonic do it.
The start of the song, what is that noise, the bass and pounding on the .. guitar I'm guessing? I am so lost right now listening to this song and it isn't the first time. I'm not on drugs. Is there a live version of this anywhere?

Are you referring to the Blast First or DGC version?

Isn't it the end of "Ghost Bitch"? Drumstick guitar and acoustic guitar noise right?

Yeah, "I'm Insane" on the DGC disc starts w/ the end of "Ghost Bitch", which involves Lee banging on a big metal sheet and Kim playing bass harmonics (on a detuned string)...see 3:56 onward: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jz9aN8LqXvA
There's a picture of Lee w/ the metal sheet (sorry, I'm not sure what it specifically is) in the Smart Bar liners, it apparently has "RISE" written on it...

Imagine being young and seeing sonic youth in 1985.
That'd be killer! |

That would be killer. I'd give anything to see SY from any year period to be honest. Early Sonic the better I think.
