You mopey bastards need to stop bitching about everything that you're unhappy with about music and lyrics in general. I don't want to hear a goddamned reference to John Cage's silence philosophy or anything. He's dead.
What are your favorite lyrics. I don't want one post in this thread about bad lyrics. We are all too familiar with them and get spoon-fed too many shit lyrics like we love it by even some of our favorite musicians. So in this thread, by musicians you like or not (everyone gets lucky sometimes) I want to read your favorite lyrics. Not just that look nice, like some folk bullshit. That's too easy. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE LYRICS THAT PERFECTLY FIT THE MELODY, RHYHTM AND FALL PERFECTLY INTO PLACE WITH THE CHORDS AND ETC AND THAT ALSO HAVE SUBSTANCE FOR WHATEVER REASON OF YOUR CHOOSING!!!!!!!!!!!! I know these are rare, so if this thread only has 5 great posts, so be it. To me, I like the captain beefheart line (tho a kind of cheesey song from him) where he says "Tell me captain how does it feel to be driven away from your steering wheel." Alot of John Lennon's acid tinged shit is tied with alot of Kurt Cobain's Heroine tinged shit and Frank Black's fast food, road tripped out shit. I compare the three together because I just love the way they say the words over the chords they choose, in a way it almost doesnt matter if the lyrics were good or not. But for these 3, they had more magical moments than shitty, contrived ones. Like so many of their immitators! Basically everything Kim says in "Shadow of a doubt" it's so sexy. It's perfect. "I may not always love you, but long as there are stars above you you'll never need to doubt it, I'll make you so sure about it." "If you should ever leave me, life will still go on believe me. The world could show nothing to me." ~ those lines from God Only Knows are quite possibly my favorite lyrics of all time, for anyone who's been deeply in love before, lost that love, and chose not to be a pussy about it. It's powerful. Especially because alot of beach boys songs are needy, typical, that's the first one I can think of that is basically romantically "baller". |

You get the car I'll get the night off You'll get the chance To take the world apart And figure out how it works Don't let me know what you find out I need a car You need a guy Who needs a map If i don't die or worse I'm gonna need a nap At best i'll be asleep When you get back I want to see it When you find out what comets stars and moons are all about Wanna see their Faces turn to backs of heads And slowly get smaller Wanna see it now I want specifics On a general idea Wanna think what i should know Want you to do me what you show I wanna see movies of my dreams I wanna see movies of my dreams I wanna see movies of my dreams I wanna see movies of my dreams Wanna see it When you get stoned on a cloudy breezy desert afternoon Wanna see it Untame itself And break it's owners Wanna see it now Wanna see it now...

The Moon by The Microphones... absolutely perfect in my eyes
I drove up to the city at night and found the place where you grew up and then where you stayed and we walked around and stayed up late under city lights, I spent the night next to you in the house where you grew up next to you, I miraculously woke up in your parents' house, I lied in bed with you I went back to feel alone there I went back to wipe it clean I took the lights and radio towers out of my dreams and we went all the way up to the small town where I'm from with foggy air and the wind and the mountain top and we clung to rocks and we looked off and you held my hand you almost got to start feeling me I finally felt like I was breathing free under swaying trees, we fell asleep and we had the same dream the stars were bright, we dream the same every night on my island home, I spent some time with you I went back to feel alone there I went back there by myself I gave up on everything that we had felt we found a precious place in the sand right out in the wind and we lied under a blanket and heard the furious sounds: the roar of waves, the pounding surf, two bodies on the earth it was intense just getting to be there next to you and you trying to get me then and I was happy to let you in I went back and wished I hadn't I went back and felt regret I went to the beach and I stared west every night when the sun went down in the town where we lived the empty streets were lit up by reflected light from a distant sun bouncing off a glowing ball of rock and we just lied on the roof and watched the moon, the moon, the blue light of the moon we didn't talk and silently we both felt powerful and like the moon my chest was full because we both knew we're just floating in space over molten rock and we felt safe and we discovered that our skin is soft there's nothing left except certain death and that was comforting at night out under the moon I went out last night to forget that I went out and stared it down but the moon stared back at me and in it's light I saw my two feet on the ground

Little birds born without a mother or a father
I can watch their bodies forming in the running water Now there is another in the middle of my mouth A hundred altogether within me now Little bird, little bird come into my body Mother, they're within me every moment I'm awaking Bodies multiplying until they finally overtake me Open up my mouth but all you'll ever hear is singing Put you hand within me and you'll know what I'm feeling I just want to swallow up and promise to protect them Daddy come to touch me but he seen his hands are shaking Look into my eyes and he could see their bodies breaking Push me to the floor and in his hands I started beating "I don't want to hear it anymore", he kept repeating Do you really want the burning hell that we believe in? Did you know the burning hell it took your baby brother? Did you see how far he fell and how he made us suffer? Another boy in town at night he took him for his lover And deep in sin they held each other So I took a hammer and nearly beat his little brains in Knowing God in heaven could have, never could forgive him So I took a hammer and I nearly beat his brains in Little boy born without a father or a mother Taken to the river and then pushed into the water And the priests are singing that the hell is getting hotter Father, Son and Holy Ghost, the only one to save him From the thing he loves the most but we know will betray him Father, Son and Holy Ghost, the only one to save him From the thing he loves the most but we know will betray him And here beneath the water I can see How the lights distort so strange And I think this is how I would like to leave my body And start again |

Basically everything by Captain Beefheart. Most of Nick Cave, even at his most sappiest. Never any Malkmus.

They say ev'rything can be replaced,
Yet ev'ry distance is not near. So I remember ev'ry face Of ev'ry man who put me here. I see my light come shining From the west unto the east. Any day now, any day now, I shall be released. They say ev'ry man needs protection, They say ev'ry man must fall. Yet I swear I see my reflection Some place so high above this wall. I see my light come shining From the west unto the east. Any day now, any day now, I shall be released. Standing next to me in this lonely crowd, Is a man who swears he's not to blame. All day long I hear him shout so loud, Crying out that he was framed. I see my light come shining From the west unto the east. Any day now, any day now, I shall be released. |

"Car" by built to spill is my girlfriend and I's, uh, "song". Having said that, I never want to hear it again.
My favorite lyrics ever are "Pneumonia" by Fog. is it depression or disease? tell it to the millipedes... the casserole was good and the drives were so nice welcome to the worst part of your life i'm hard to fix because it took me so goddamn long to figure out that I broke down mold spores fill my lungs silverfish hide in the venetian blinds in the wintertime in the bathroom with the shower running and my clothes on I figured out that I hate you all i'm hard to fix because it took me so goddamn long to figure out that I broke down |

The last night of the fair
By the big wheel generator A boy is stabbed And his money is grabbed And the air hangs heavy like a dulling wine She is Famous She is Funny An engagement ring Doesn't mean a thing To a mind consumed by brass and money And though I walk home alone I might walk home alone ... ...But my faith in love is still devout The last night of the fair From a seat on a whirling waltzer Her skirt ascends for a watching eye It's a hideous trait on her mother's side From a seat on a whirling waltzer Her skirt ascends for a watching eye It's a hideous trait on her mother's side And though I walk home alone I might walk home alone ... ...But my faith in love is still devout Then someone falls in love And someone's beaten up Someone's beaten up And the senses being dulled are mine And someone falls in love And someone's beaten up And the senses being dulled are mine And though I walk home alone I might walk home alone ... ...But my faith in love is still devout This is the last night of the fair And the grease in the hair Of a speedway operator Is all a tremulous heart requires A schoolgirl is denied She said : "How quickly would I die If I jumped from the top of the parachutes ?" La ... This is the last night of the fair And the grease in the hair Of a speedway operator Is all a tremulous heart requires A schoolgirl is denied She said : "How quickly would I die If I jumped from the top of the parachutes ?" La ... So ... scratch my name on your arm with a fountain pen This means you really love me Scratch my name on your arm with a fountain pen This means you really love me Oh ... And though I walk home alone I just might walk home alone But my faith in love is still devout I might walk home alone But my faith in love is still devout I might walk home alone But my faith in love is still devout La ... |

When I was a five-year-old, I saw a five-year girl a-walkin'
And in my heart a little bell was tolled, and a little voice said Kookenhaken, Kookenhaken. Now, you don't know what that word means, nor I the man now talkin' But when my heart had found a queen, a little voice did say Kookenhaken, Kookenhaken. So long forgotten was that word, so long that lock unlockin' But once again that little word was heard, 'cause of my little Kookenhaken. Well, do you like that sound, do you? I don't know what it means either. My heart has found a queen, my little Kookenhaken, well... Kookenhaken, the word from years ago. Kookenhaken, I've heard it now again. Kookenhaken, my heart has found a friend in My little Kookenhaken, well My little Kookenhaken, You know, you got my heart talkin', Kookenhaken, Kookenhaken in my heart, and I love you, little Kookenhak. And I've been walking long a year, and dear I'm tired of talkin', So come on, honey, and listen here, and be my little Kookenhaken. And I've been walkin' hill and dale, through vale and valley walkin', So come on, honey, and read your mail my little Kookenhaken. Kookenhaken, do you like that sound? Kookenhaken, I don't know what it means. Kookenhaken, my heart was found a queen, My little Kookenhaken. Kookenhaken, a word from years ago. Kookenhaken, I've heard it now again. Kookenhaken, my heart has found a friend My little Kookenhaken, well My little Kookenhaken, You know, well you got my heart talkin', Kookenhaken, kookenhaken in my heart, and I love you, little Kookenhaken. And I've been walking long a year, and dear I'm tired of talkin', So come on, honey, and listen here, and be my little Kookenhaken. And I've been walkin' hill and dale, through vale and valley walkin', So come on, honey, and read your mail and be my little Kookenhaken. Kookenhaken, kookenhaken, in my heart. Kookenhaken, kookenhaken, in my heart. Kookenhaken, kookenhaken, in my heart. My little Kookenhaken. Kookenhaken, kookenhaken, I love you. Kookenhaken, kookenhaken, I love you. Kookenhaken, kookenhaken, I love you. My little Kookenhaken. |
