Sonic Muppets at YBCA This Friday and Saturday
December 17, 2008 What do Sonic Youth and The Muppets have in common? Well, nothing, but they will each be showcased in an amazing double feature this Friday and Saturday, Dec. 19 and 20, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. At 7pm each night, the show starts with 70 minutes of Muppets Music Moments, a program featuring much of the fun and educational music used in The Muppet Show. The video shapes each song into a different musical genre and features guest stars Paul Simon, Elton John, Debbie Harry and more. Then, at 8:30, the lights get a little dimmer and the music gets a little louder for Sonic Youth: Sleeping Nights Awake, a new documentary about garage punk pioneers Sonic Youth. The documentary was shot entirely by seven high school students and features interviews, backstage footage, and ten songs performed live in Reno in 2006. You can see the trailer for the documentary here. This pairing is not to be missed. The shows take place at the YBCA Screening Room at 701 Mission St. in San Francisco. Tickets for both shows are: $10 regular, $8 seniors, students & teachers; $8 YBCA Members, and can be purchased on the website. You can also purchase individual tickets, but why would you want to do that? |

I wanna see the bit where Thurston Sonic and Animal Muppet suddenly appear and do a wild drums / guitar improv thing. If someone could photoshop some pics of that duo for me, I'd be most grateful.
And I'd also like to see the photos of Kim meeting Janice from The Electric Mayhem. Would it possible to tell which was which? |
