I don't like female artists on the singer/songwriter side. There seems to be a proliferation these days. I prefer people like Lydia Lynch, early Hole, Patti Smith, Exene when she was with X--rockers, in other words, experimental or otherwise. I really like the Marble Index album, too.

Diamanda Galas has been around since the early 80s. She has an incredible voice. She apparently has a 4 octave vocal range which was heavily influenced by a form of German Opera. Quite the set of lungs, a mix of deep satanic sounding low range moving to high-pitched shreiking stuff.
